Rick and Marilyn Boyer

Authors Rick and Marilyn Boyer are true pioneers of the Christian family movement. Marrying young in 1973, they reared and homeschooled their 14 sons and daughters through high school. Along the way, they wrote over thirty books for parents and kids, in addition to creating Character Concepts—a bible-based character curriculum for young people of preschool through high school age. Since the 1980’s, they have crisscrossed America and visited several foreign countries with a powerful message of marriage and parenthood from Scripture. Marilyn is loved for her wisdom, experience and loving passion for helping younger moms. Rick’s messages blend intensity with humor as he applies life experience and Scriptural principles to share marriage and parenting solutions that work. Together, the Boyers share the vision that built a family of grown sons and daughters who love God and are each other’s best friends. Rick and Marilyn are members of the international Fellowship of Biblical Counselors.

Session Descriptions

Session # 1- Your Family- A Future and A Hope

  • In Jeremiah 29, God’s people have experienced judgement and find themselves living in the midst of a hostile culture. God promises to deliver them in His time and tells them what to do in order to prepare to rebuild a once-godly nation. He doesn’t tell them to build colleges, start underground newspapers or create a third political party. Instead, He directs them to establish homes, build families, and seek the welfare of the city in which they are living. God has a plan for restoring a godly culture. And your family has a part in it!

Session #2- A Husband Looks at Proverbs 31

  • Proverbs 31:10-31 gives a detailed description of a successful wife and mother. This amazing lady is a woman for all seasons. The chapter goes into detail about her many character qualities and the wide variety of activities she pursues and succeeds in. In this session, we’ll talk about her essential role in the life success of her family members and how her husband should relate to her and support her.

Session # 3-“Together Times” for Busy Families

  • We live in a busy, high-pressured world. There are a thousand distractions and responsibilities for our time. With all that swirling around us, it can be hard to keep priorities in order and make time for family togetherness. Our family devotional time is essential to keeping communication open and Christ at the center of our family life. Let’s talk about how we can make the most of it.

Sessions # 4- Choosing Cheerfulness (Marilyn’s talk to the women)

  • The wife/mom has the ability to set the tone of the home atmosphere. I will share with the moms some things I’ve learned through the years about the power of a cheerful spirit in making a marriage and family life a joy. I’ll include some practical tips on how to be more productive and encouraging while contentedly creating an atmosphere that family members love to come home to.

The Biblical Role of the Husband in the Home (Rick’s talk to the men)

  • There are plenty of misconceptions about the role of the father/husband in a homeschooling family. Some people think that if he can’t be at home during “school time” he can’t be involved. Others think his job is to take over some of Mom’s chores in order to free her to spend more time with the children. But Scripture gives seven functions of a father in a godly home, and each of these can be applied very practically and powerfully in your home. Rick will address the ways that the husband can practically support his wife in this journey they share.  Enjoy the wisdom and humor of this presentation as Rick answers the question of “What’s A Dad to Do?”

Session # 5- Cultivating Servant’s Hearts in Your Family

  • Jesus taught that the greatest among us would those with a heart for service. We are saturated in a “me-centered” culture in which education, entertainment, advertising, and peer pressure all combine to promote a life of selfishness. Wise training in our home can teach family members to choose the better path and have fun while doing it! We want to share with you how to design a lifestyle of service that will inspire your family to live above self-centeredness and rise to greatness by putting others first.

Session # 6 -The Killer B: Whose Sting Poisons Relationships

  • B stands for bitterness. It has been said that being bitter at someone is like drinking poison and expecting the other person to go away. Bitterness is responsible for more divorces and more shattered parent-child relationships than any other attitude. But the Bible has practical answers for this problem and God is eager to show you and your family the way to freedom.
